System Preferences - Displays

The Display preferences lets you set things like screen resolution and colors.

To set basic display options


Click the Display Tab

Set options as desired:

Resolutions control the number of pixels that appear on the screen. Setting a higher resolution results in a larger screen area, but smaller contents.

Desktop @ 800 x 600 resolution


Desktop @1024 x 800 resolution


Colors controls the number of colors that appear on the screen. The more colors you have, the better the quality of the screen resolution.

Refresh Rate controls how quickly the screen will refresh itself in hertz. The higher the number, the steadier the image.

Show displays in menu bar displays a menu of recently used settings. You can specify how many resolutions you would like to be shown in the menu.


Contrast and Brightness enable you to adjust the levels of brightness and contrast by using the slider

To set display color profile


Click the Color Tab

Select a Profile to use with your display.
